Being diagnosed with breast cancer is devastating. As part of their cancer treatment, many women undergo a mastectomy and lose one or both of their breasts. In hopes of restoring their womanly figure, some women opt to have breast reconstruction surgery. Many options exist to restore the nipple areola.
Understandably, there is a strong emotional relationship between, you, as a woman, and your breasts, areola, and nipple. With the help of permanent cosmetics, we are able to restore the areola as well as the nipple.
Nipple Tattooing
Nipple and areolar tattooing, also known as areola repigmentation, refers to a technique known as micro-pigmentation. Using a detailed technique, our experienced staff carefully defines the area using an intense pigmentation to create the appearance of an areola. Utilizing a three-dimensional approach, our experienced staff will create the illusion of a nipple.
Generally, we follow one of these three approaches:
- Redefine an areola that was distorted during a mastectomy or reconstruction surgery
- Match the areola to that of your remaining breast
- Reinvent and restore the areola and nipple area to both breasts
Caring for You
Breast cancer is just as emotionally tasking as it is physically. At Midsota Plastic Surgeons, we understand that for many breast cancer survivors, recreating the areola and nipple is often the last step in what has been a long and tiring journey.
