With dipping temperatures, winter is not the season we choose to bare a lot of skin. It is for just this reason that winter is the ideal time of year to undergo laser skin treatments. Excellent for minimizing brown spots, fine lines, and wrinkles, and uneven skin texture and tone of the face, chests, and hands — laser treatments at Midsota Plastic Surgery are a great way to rejuvenate your skin this winter.
Pale Skin Is Ideal
For laser treatments to work most effectively, it is good to have given your skin a few months break from the sun. Why? Laser treatments work best on pale skin. To put it simply, the laser is attracted to dark areas of pigmentation within the skin. If the area around the targeted spot is also tan, the laser can become confused and mistake surrounding skin for that of the treatment area. So, while you may miss your sun-kissed glow, winter is the ideal time to reverse any sun damage that you may have accrued during the summer.
Limit Your Sun Exposure
It is important to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays as you go about your laser treatments. Regardless as to whether you choose ablative or non-ablative laser resurfacing, your skin will be extremely sensitive following your treatment and any sun exposure can further irritate and inflame your skin. Sun exposure not only interferes with the healing process, it can actually make your skin look worse. With Minnesota’s low temperatures and shorter days can keep your skin safe in the weeks following your laser treatment.
More than One Treatment
To achieve optimal results, you may need to undergo a series of laser resurfacing sessions. Many of our patients choose to have between two and four treatments spaced anywhere from four to eight weeks apart. By starting your treatments in the early months of winter, you will be able to complete your series before the sun returns to St. Cloud.
Take advantage of the cold, dark days of winter and tend to your skin at Midsota Plastic Surgeons. We offer a number of laser treatments to reverse past sun damage, lessen brown spots, and fade hyperpigmentation. Don’t delay, the sun will be back before you know it!
