As of late, platelet rich plasma based cosmetic treatments have been a growing trend in the beauty industry. Amongst a long list of others, celebrity beauty icons Angelina Jolie and Kim Kardashian have touted the wondrous results that platelet rich plasma rejuvenation can offer. While only recently garnering the attention they deserve, platelet rich plasma treatments have been performed for nearly ten years.
Performed in unison with microneedling, at Midsota Plastic Surgery, platelet rich plasma proves to be age-defying with the ability to completely rejuvenate one’s facial appearance. Each restorative in their own right, together, microneedling and platelet rich plasma come together to create a beautiful and lasting restoration.
What is Platelet Rich Plasma?
Taken from one’s own blood—platelet rich plasma (PRP) contains highly concentrated platelets, which release a complex mixture of growth factors that stimulate cellular growth. Platelets send many signals within the body and can help regenerate the skin.
Along with eight potent growth factors, PRP contains a mix of other cytokines (proteins that are important in cell signaling) that further stimulate the healing of soft tissue. Encouraging the body to rebuild damaged tissue, platet rich plasma also stimulates stem cell development—resulting in the growth of new and fresh skin.
PRP + Microneedling
When performed alone, microneedling initiates the skin’s natural repair process by creating micro-injuries along the skin’s surface. Through these tiny channels, platelet rich plasma is able to fully and evenly penetrate and work deep within the skin’s various layers. Each bettering the other, when used in conjunction, microneedling and platelet rich plasma enhance the benefits of one another to further improve the skin’s renewal cycle.
What Is the Treatment Like?
Step 1: Blood is drawn — needing only about two tablespoons, blood is most often drawn from the patient’s arm
Step 2: To collect platelet rich plasma, the blood is spun in Midsota’s specialty centrifuge (a device designed to separate serum, platelets, and white blood cells from red blood cells)
Step 3: Platelet rich plasma is carefully extracted
Step 4: Your practitioner will gently apply the platelet rich plasma and expertly microneedle the serum into your skin
Applied topically, there is little pain and minimal downtime associated with this blend of treatments.
Together, PRP and microneedling allow for an all over facial rejuvenation—making this an ideal treatment to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, diminish the appearance of scarring, and lessen the prominence of stretch marks. Stimulating new cell growth, the two treatments result in firmer, younger looking skin.
