Breast Reconstruction After Mastectomy

Reconstructive breast surgery is designed to restore the breasts, so women can continue to feel confident, sexy and strong after preventing or beating breast cancer. At CentraCare – Midsota Plastic Surgery, our surgeons have extensive experience in some of the newest techniques, including the DIEP flap procedure, a process that uses skin and tissue from your abdomen to create a new breast after a mastectomy.

When should I have breast reconstruction surgery?

You can do breast reconstruction surgery at the time of the mastectomy or at a later date. For some women, especially those who need radiation therapy, it is better to wait until the cancer care is complete before undergoing breast reconstruction.

What can I expect from breast reconstruction surgery?

If you decide to use natural tissue, you will have long lasting breast reconstruction results. If you use implants, they will need to be replaced at some point in the future. Since it is more challenging to replace the breast than to remove it, breast reconstruction often involves more than one surgery.

How can I get more information about a breast reconstruction surgery?

We want to hear about your needs and goals so we can create the best procedure plan for your body. The conversation will include breast reconstruction options, such as the use of natural tissue versus implants. We want you to feel comfortable and safe throughout the entire process.
